You’ve seen them. Right? White bedrooms that too often look sterile and unapproachable. Yet, you long for the calming peacfulness of a soft dreamy white bedroom. It’s inviting, alluring you to daydrem and let your thoughts float. So how do you create this haven?

Read on to discover five elements of a dreamy white bedroom.

  1. Add Shades of White in Layers

In example on, the white bedroom was designed for two girls. The soft pink colors in the lamp, the blanket and the pompoms are wonderful accents to the white. The designer explains that she had used elements in layers of whites. On the wall, she had used a white with with a blue shade. On the head and footboard, she used

two different shades of whites when painting their beds.
I first painted a layer of Decorator’s White on their beds, and then lightly brushed on a coat of White Dove. Both colors are Benjamin Moore colors.

Note that hues of whites are rather subtle. When combined with texture, the hues are more defined.

2. Vary The Textures of soft elements

What a beautiful dreamy white bedroom in the image below.  It's elegant and classy.  Yet, it achieves its dreaminess through different textures found in its elements:

  • tufted headboard;

  • smooth white linen that contrasts with the patterned white bedcover;

  • decorative white pillows, one in a white shag and another with off white pom-pom trim;

  • an off-white faux fur(?) throw;

  • a painted white smooth side table topped with antique white lamps and white shades; and

  • white walls beautiful detailed with white moldings.

3. Let natural sunlight flood the room

Think beach! Wear sunglasses if you must. But natural sunlight flooding a room and warming your face is simply magical. It’s natural to conjur up gentle, loving thoughts that float through your mind. Note how the free flowing bed netting transforms the bed to a wonderland—and you too if you were in that bed!

4. Invoke classical romantic elements

As illustrated in example one, the dreamy white bedroom below creates a magical, romantic touch with the 18th century bergère chairs; an ornate white-framed leaning floor mirror; and understated chandelier while mixing in a touch of modern pieces found in the drum lamp shade.

In summary

Living in an apartment where your choice of wall colors may be limited doesn't mean you can't create that dreamy white bedroom. Wherever possible still insert elements for a dreamy white bedroom:

  1. If you can’t change the wall colors, focus on the bed covering with layers of white hues.

  2. Vary textures that can be found in furnitures and accessories.

  3. Allow as much light as possible to flow into the room from the windows. A large mirror placed opposite a window will reflect light back into the room.

  4. Introduce even one item that reflects a classical romantic piece, such as a chair, an accessory or chandelier.

  5. Flowing shear curtains and draperies are a great way to add a huge statement of softness.

P.S.  Pets and children are certainly allowed.  Just simplify the bed by adding an extra sheet half folded across the top of bed, go for a very casual bedscape. It can easily be removed and cleaned.
